Fleet’s first ever fashion week will come to the town next month, with a fashion show hosted by ITV presenter Anna Williamson
Children’s presenter Anna Williamson will host this year’s Fleet Fashion Show – the highlight of the town’s first ever fashion week.
Traders in Fleet are getting in gear to get involved in Fleet Fashion Week for the first time next month.
The event will include mini pamper sessions and makeovers, in-store stylist sessions, a colour and style masterclass with afternoon tea and special discounts.
The highlight of the week will be the Fleet Fashion Show featuring women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, as well as a drinks reception and charity auction in aid of Farnham’s Phyllis Tuckwell hospice.
Held in The Harlington, the show will be hosted by Anna, who is the entertainment and showbiz reporter for ITV’s Daybreak, and was also a semi-finalist in the 2014 series of the celebrity diving show Splash!
The festival of fashion is being held in the half-term week and will include activities for all the family.
There will be children’s sewing sessions, window displays featuring live models and a children’s fashion fun day. Youngsters will also be able to take part in a competition to design their own outfits.
For children in Years 9, 10 or 11, the winner will have the opportunity to work with a seamstress to create their winning design, while younger children will win a place in a sewing workshop.
Fleet Fashion Week is being organised by a team of local retailers and volunteers with the support of Fleet Future and Hart District Council, with Fleet Town Council helping to stage the fashion show. More than 30 retailers and businesses will be taking part.
Jenny Atherton, economic development officer at Hart District Council, said: “This event is a great opportunity to showcase the great independent retailers in Fleet and we hope this will draw a large number of people to the town, particularly as it is in the half-term week.
“It follows the success of the Fleet Food Festival in May and Fleet Future have again been instrumental in initiating this community event, reflecting the findings in the Fleet Future Town Plan that both businesses and residents want to see more events and activities in the town centre.”
Among those taking part in the fashion week is Emma Molyneux from Experience, an independent retailer based in Fleet for nearly 20 years.
She said: “Having organised fashion shows previously I know this is a great way to bring businesses and the community together, and showcase the fashion retailers in the town. As the economy starts to recover we are seeing more people coming to Fleet attracted by the growing number of independent retailers here.”
